Oil on linen panel, 48" diameter.

“I started this series the summer I moved to Ojai, just as I was beginning to paint. I was looking at pictures by Hockney and Derain and marveling at this new (to me) landscape. At the start of every summer I make another “Awha’y” (Chumash for moon or nest), mapping out the valley and its mix of the cultivated, the developed and the wild. This latest incarnation is closer-up and maybe a tad less fantastical than previous ones - maybe I’m getting less wild-eyed the longer I’m here. I still love it, still feel held in its embrace, still see the magic of its light and landforms and community - hope some of that comes across in this picture.”
