Outside Barnsdale Cemetery
Original oil on canvas, 24 x 20, unframed.
“A picture made of marks, colors, shapes, patterns, textures, and so much else besides - how I felt making it (good! transported, engrossed, involved), what the subject contains (that piece of road near Santa Paula, the nearby graveyard & mountains), all the assumptions and influences it contains (another ‘colorful landscape’ why is it so pleasing - isn’t this just a Hockney/Thiebaud/Derrain knockoff?) Anyhow, I’m really enjoying being back painting after a lot of not-painting. Painting is better than not.”
